USB

Universal Serial Bus: the stick you write the installer image to.

UEFI

Unified Extensible Firmware Interface: the start-up settings screen of a modern computer, where you choose to boot from the USB stick.

VM

Virtual machine: a computer simulated in software, for example on VMware or Hyper-V.

vCPU

Virtual CPU (central processing unit): a processor core assigned to a virtual machine.

RAM

Random-access memory: the computer's working memory.

GB

Gigabyte: a unit of storage or memory size.

LAN

Local area network: your office or site network.

SSH

Secure Shell: an encrypted way to sign in to a computer's command line remotely.
